Maria Arnal

María Arnal performed her version of El cant de la Sibil-la, the well-known medieval liturgical drama that was declared Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2004.

This millenary song about the Apocalypse is the starting point to update the concept of end and transformation, in the context of the climatic emergency and the crises of the 21st century. María Arnal starts from the etymological meaning of the word Apocalypse, which is that of revelation, that is, the need to build a new look, to break with the soloist voice of the Sibil-la and choralize it, through synthetic voices generated by an artificial intelligence.

It is also accompanied by a MIDI-controlled organetto, a unique instrument custom-made by one of Spain’s most important master organ builders, Albert Blancafort. There is no other MIDI organetto that can be controlled by a computer or MIDI controller.

From the computer the artificial voices that harmonize Maria’s live voice are launched, and the notes played by the organetto are also controlled. Overall, it is a version of Cant de la sibil-la with a radically choral, experimental and avant-garde artistic vision.
